The trendnet dongle fills the missing link of lan connectivity for my asus chromebook flip. Works with my windows based tablet as well. One note, is that it does not show up to my computer when i connect it through a usb breakout device.

The toshiba ugreen has an ethernet port with a speed of 100 mbps. This is 20% faster than my isp & home network of 300 mbps. Ordered it for my raspberry pi 3 in order to get more than 100m connection.

A cheap way into the asix ax88179 chipset, which has good linux support. Between the chip and/or driver is significantly less *-tactic than some other options. Tested it with a pure stock linux os (no distro) and raspbian, and ubuntu 16.

The problem seems to be the hardware but could be an interaction with the freebsd driver. After i downloaded the mac driver following the instruction, the mac preference still shows the device is not connected.
