You need to be on a very flat surface for it to be stable and on a thick carpet it might be a bit tippy

Last year i bought a different brand of gooseneck was less expensive to use by my sewing machine and instantly i could see why it was less expensive been using it for a year but it is not as stable as the trond so this month i bought another trond for a night stand lamp

Some people complain as the cord runs outside only if you use the extensions and they have a tidy velcro strip for each extension to hold the cord in place
