Pros & Cons
Pros
The reception on the sds200 is outstanding, using identical antennas side by side with the bcd536hp the difference was very noticeable. Sure the antenna is cheap but if you're in to serious scanning, get a serious antenna. My local agencies use p-25 p... Read More
There are several upgrades available to the sds200 and they can be pricey but depending on where you live those upgrades are not even necessary. My only complaint so far with the unit is that they put the ethernet jack on the front of the unit and ups... Read More
Programming with the uniden sentinel software (free) was pretty quick and easy to accomplish. If you decide to make the plunge i’d suggest getting the proscan software as an add-on ($50) programing is the same as the bcdx86hp/sds100 models so you can ... Read More
Audio is very clear, tons of ways to customize the display. Voice clarity is so clear that the individual voice inflection (including loud vs. Loud) seems clean with little intermod or birdies. No static or noise.
Cons
This is the third lemon i received with the same problem, no sound. It seems uniden is lost on how to fix this since the engineer left the company. Right out of the box display is completely unreadable even when dimmers are set to 100 percent.
If you were deliberately trying to make something horrifyingly complex to use, this has to be it! Default setup by zip code, is totally useless! The system is way to slow to be useful in any busy municipal setting. On 3 it scans past everything.
The large (cheap plastic) chrome looking knob on the left of the radio comes loose. This forces you to send the radio back to uniden instead of the customary 30 day warranty from sellers on amazon.

Unfortunately it's necessary with the complexity of two way radio systems nowadays.
After being in the scanning hobby for over a decade, i decided to make the leap to the sds200.
Price
It is on the costly side, but if you need a great digital receiver, this unit will do a great job.
Price aside, this is the best scanner you can buy.
It is a little pricey, but do you get what you pay for.
It cost me over $100 just for that.
Shipping
Great customer service and fast shipping too.
A lot to learn on this radio, it sounds great and super fast shipping.
Arrived in less than 24 hours !
What i mean by that i thought i wasn't going to get a refund because of a lack of communication and that was corrected it shows... Read More
Packaging/appearance
Removed it from the box, punched in my zip code, immediately listened to a car chase happening in my area.
An oversized used box was used and no packing to secure the radio and prevent it from possible damaging during shipping.
Competitiveness
The sds 200 is the most advanced, user friendly (compared to other similarly featured scanners) on the market.
I would definitely recommend it over any other scanner on the market as of right now.
The sds200 is really nothing different than it's mobile 100 version.
Uniden is known for its product and this one is no different.
