The soles were still in great condition, but the shoe was now useless unless i wanted to duct tape the tops where the laces used to be.

Competitiveness
Unfortunately, vibram has discontinued this model so about six months ago, i bought a $120 pair kmd evos with the laces instead of velcro.
There is a trade-off, the kmd sport is slightly less flexible than the other two.
The cushioning (or lack thereof) is about the same as the bikilas.
