I purposely set off my trap after inserting it to make sure it has room to operate

Gophers do not like sunlight in their tunnels they will plug the hole

Place a metal dog bowl or something on top to cover the trap

Additionally i usually place some cheese or carrots just behind the trap so the gopher moves all the way up prior to the trap being set off
