The strap is nylon accented with matching leather the part of the strap that rests on you is completely nylon the leather is facing out for looks if any dye were to rub off most likely it would come from the bag

The phone pockets will easily accommodate most devices i was able to put a samsung gs3 with a hard cover on it in the small pocket it fit tight

If youre looking for an actual messenger bag that can carry a few work folders a book or two and a tablet than you need to get a different model
