It's got accurate and well-researched details, but doesn't over-complicate anything.
This encyclopedia is a real treat. It's an especially good gift for older grade-schoolers. No regrets at all.
Gorgeous, heavyweight book. This book is phenomenal. The book is huge and heavy duty. I am willing to overlook that because this book is so stunning.
The explanatory text is appropriate for kids. My kids love going through this book and leaning about different topics. Even my 2 yr old, like to point to and name the pictures.
Cons
The text is very blurry at best and illegible at many points. All photos and illustrations are extremely low quality. This is horrible and should be embarrassing to dk books that state this is a visual encyclopedia!

It is hard to go wrong with the smithsonian and dk working in tandem.
The images are exceptional and great quality.
No a days with the internet, no one really needs to open up an actual book, or older books have all words no pictures.

It is more of a quick overview of subjects that are divided into categories space earth life science and technology history beliefs and society arts and leisurean example of an entry would be“numbers” under the science and technology category

This is more of a coffee table type book by the size and thickness

And the size of the book makes it a bit awkward to ship and mine arrived with some damage to the bottom “back” of the spine
