Steel,desk bracket is 1\4 thick as well. The materials this is made of are sturdy.
I wish they included a velcro strap to hold your laptop and made the surface that you set your laptop on more of a non-slip surface. Very nice projection of the adjustable arm.
Hardware includes clamping to a desk or using existing hole for grommet base install. Took all of 20 minutes to put together and install on my breakfast nook/bar. Overall this is a great product for mounting a computer.

It makes a bit of squeaking noise when ever the laptop is used but it has been 3 years the nuts need tightening every few months
