But if you read the very first sentence in the user manual it actually says to press and hold the m button for 3 seconds when the display comes on and it will unlock the control panel

Other reviews complain about the control panel going to sleep i had the same issue and spent 2 minutes looking in the product manual to discover you simply hold down the “m” button to take it out of sleep mode
