The quality, humidistat, and fan make this worth the extra money.
Even with the warm-mist function, my electricity usage hasn't noticeably moved.
I bought an ultra1 as well, and between these 3 units, they keep the whole house comfortable in the winter, even with the furnace going.
I wanted to review this one right away but chose to wait to test for a long term quality.
Competitiveness
Way more expensive than the $30 humidifiers you can find at any big box store but totally worth the extra cost.

If i had one criticism it would be that a gallon certainly does not last 24 hours at a setting of 45 percent humidity

Somehow the vibrating diaphragm would stop working

The only cons would be that it is a bit awkward to put back the water container back into the main unit and that the water container has no flat surface to lay it down when refilling it thus one has to hold it while refilling
