Pros & Cons
Pros
The turrets are smooth and the illuminated reticle is quite nice. The zero stop functionally is amazing once zeroed. Turrets track true and parallax dial is very smooth.
One click and you are illuminated. Illumination is powerful but i have noticed a slight bleed when it’s on 10 power and 25x zoom.
Hunting scopes are usually sighted in and left alone for years. The vortex viper goes from 100 yards (a typical zero setting) out to 500 yards, then back to 100 and hits the same hole if shooter and rifle are good enough. The scope has 70 moa of adjus... Read More
This scope was highly rated both by acquaintances i know that do long range shooting/hunting, as well as many blogs/forums. Perfect match for my ruger american hunter 20 6.
An extra $70 for vortex precision matched rings (that needn't be lapped) is a small investment to protect a $1,000 scope. This is the second pst scope i've bought in as many years. Vortex provides a lifetime warranty on this scope. For the price point... Read More
Cons
The funny thing is the package i received looked like it might have been an open box item.
Highlights
Quality
The quality glass is amazing for the money.
Value is very important always but quality is still number one.
I just bought this scope a week ago and i am blown away by the quality!
It is a vortex, so the quality is there, especially for its price point.
Price
The difference in price is well spent.
And the price is what sold me on it.
Yes the raptor series & nf are better, but also 3x the cost.
Packaging/appearance
With my eyes not as good as they used to be, i was having issues getting the parallax set correctly at medium ranges - somethin... Read More

The 5256 has a slightly different reticle with markings on the outer sides and not marked in the center cross-hair as in the 5255.
Competitiveness
I used a vortex percision qr cantilevered mount (cm-404).
I looked at a name brand high end scope with a 34mm diameter tube and a 56mm objective lens.
I had a competitor's scope on my other rifle, and, though i like it quite a bit, it was only a 4.
I highly recommed that item if you are in the market for an excellent high power scope.
