Pros & Cons
Pros
This is the most simple yet durable tablet you'll ever own. Compared to my last experience with wacom (i had a bamboo tablet) the tablet is fairly light, but it feels solid, not cheap. Pressure sensitivity is plenty.
The drawing area for'small' is about two yellow sticky notes side by side. Not a deal breaker there. It's not bulky, yet you feel as though you have more than enough room to draw.
The cth680 comes with 3 extra pen nibs attached to a small panel on the bottom middle back of the tablet. Wacom offers all of the software downloadable from their site. This tablet is far superior to the newer model just for the eraser.
Cons
I cannot in good conscience, give this a higher rating. With the latest drivers, it does so occasionally where she loses control of the mouse. Must be nice to stiff your paying customers for a whole week.
Wacom intuos is not mac compatible. Usb ports are too big to fit into standard usb cords. Don't pay more for new hardware just to get drivers that work.
It's down all the time, can't download bundled software, etc. Can't download the software suite the device came with. Thanks again comcast.

Competitiveness
If you can't afford to go with a cintiq, this is probably the best way to go.
I have this tablet and chose it over the newer wacom model.
Drawing area for medium is almost exactly half of 8x11 paper.
For beginers it is dificult to use it.

So whenever you need to go the corners you will have to go almost to the corners of the wacom which really suck if you have a tight place for it
