Pros

Brandon sanderson is the master storyteller in the fantasy department. Most of his books that he reads are on audible. It is a testimony to his excellent writing & (his otherwise fantastic) world building that i am nonetheless a fan of the book.

There seems to always be a theme of not entirely consensual, politically or violently motivated (off screen) *. Lots of political intrigue and fun twists. Each character is distinct and memorable.

As a standalone it offers a singular story that is easy to read and understand (for the most part especially if you are into the fantasy genre). Even her more neutral narration is smooth and soothing in a way that felt apropos for this kind of a fanta... Read More

The plot keeps stringing you along, never being too obtuse. At about 30% into the book the mysteries and secrets start picking up steam and the book takes off.

Cons

They speak the same way, right down to the banter. But she's not written in an inspired way. The narrator is one of my favorite but even she can't save this.

Every time i read a sanderson novel, i remember why it is i vow not to read another sanderson novels. To put it bluntly, sanderson's execution of the said different things leaves much to be desired. This is no mistborn trilogy.

There is a god character who is, predictably, a renegade. But there is a lot to all of that that could be explored and isn't. Just more walks and more pondering and more navel gazing and introspection.
