It's not a bit fiddly, it's extremely and unnecessarily fiddley. Only have a gland for round cables not flat cables. There were no spare yellow grippers to go round differing size cables.

When you screw the thing closed it squeezes around the wire and makes a firm frictionseal so no waters getting into that thing

These connectors are therefore minimum diameter the same as many other suppliers quoting 5mm

As i needed only 23 mm sheathed diameter of outside fairy lights i still used the connector and filled the seal area with a flexible setting sealant before tightening the gland

As for ‘waterproofness’ i cannot judge as the cable was too small to seal and i added my own sealant
