There is regular drive noise and the fans spin up with lots of activity.
You may think that’d cause heating problems, i did, but even in the middle of a project its barely warm!
My current storage systems total to about 30 tb where i have a mosh-pit of peripherals ranging from seagate to lacie drives and raids.
Price
Hearing this back-up with my time machine regularly is worth the extra $$$
These are pricey but considering the need for a confident storage devise .
I would have given it five stars, but when i went to buy two more, amazon had raised the price by 11%.

I havent stressed it too much with video editing yet but have transferred very large files and folders from a usb 3 wd 3tb external drive to the 8tb my book pro and it screamed compared to my old firewire raid and usb3 to usb3 copying previously
