Quality

Quality stuff and it seems nothing has changed over the years.

All told, i'm happy with this hard drive.

The hard drive met my expectations and the performace is consistent with the specs and description provided.

From a vibration perspective, whatever wd did with the network drives, it seems to have worked.

Packaging/appearance

The packaging was typical wd stuff, but it served its purpose of protecting the hard drive for shipment.

Now this is retail packaging, so it has the screws, and the other goodies.

Competitiveness

(they both share the same 1,000,000 hour mtbf.

I ran this 1tb wd network drive in my work pc and a 4-drive nas for this review.

The optimizations are tangible though the differences in specs between drive families and sometimes even within the same family can be subtle so having more information would be appreciated

I honestly dont know how theyre different and wd red are rated for 600000 loadunload cycles whereas wd network does not specify a rating

From my own testing i can confirm that the wd network ran cool and quiet and it performed rather well for sequential readwrites though it suffered from higher latency compared to a 7200 rpm desktop drive

I performed an unscientific finger test and felt a few different drives in operation and indeed the wd network seemed to vibrate the least when compared to a wd black 750gb and a seagate 7200
