Pros
Capacity makes it great for storage, editing, and playback of media files. Used it for storing large database files.
Received two drives straight from wd warehouse after purchasing. I am annoyed that i was asked to write a review but it's a good product.
Cons
Western digital now have noise as permanent feature with all their drives. Drive fails toinitialize, gives data error (cyclic redundancy check) tried cleaning it in diskpart in windows. Beeping and grinding on startup.
No luck, writing this off as doa and contacting wd. I confirm that this product is not under warranty in canada.

Almost 200$ more now, is pretty crazy if you ask me.

Both batches arrived within 2-3 days timeframe.
Packaging/appearance
I ordered for 8 tb drives, and i selected the option to package these drives in amazon packaging, so these drives would not be revealed.
Both dives came sealed in electrostatic bags but one had a mark suggesting it sustained an impact and refused to power up.

Competitiveness
Because of the smr/cmr issues on wd reds i won't be buying them anymore.
The red at 5400rpm may be a suitable alternative but is not as fast as a 7200rpm, less transfer life, and warranty as the gold.

I think i had one 34dud34 in a set of 4 x 4tb that i purchased from a local store but everyone has immediate replacement warrantee so that was no problem

Ive been running the wd red 4tb drives for years with no issues and no failures and i just decided to upgrade to something bigger
