Pros

The drives are used daily for photography and graphic design work. This is my 4th wd red drive and they all work great, oldest 2 drives are 3. I recommend this as it is with a better price and same performance to its competitors.

Some reviews say the seagate iron wolf drives are faster but they are also more expensive. They are very quiet which makes them a nice option for an htpc, media server or nas storage. Read and write speeds are fast. A little noisy the first day.

Cons

Western digital nas hdd products are not very reliable. First of all, there is zero packing material and only the anti-static bag to protect the drive. And firstly, it's likely i got a bad unit, so your mileage may vary.

Quality

I wish amazon sold the 12tb hard drives too but for the price and capacity i can't complain.

Easy to do with the help of qnap .

Wd is know for making cheap drives (cheap in price and sometimes in quality), this one is no different.

Replaced my 6 year old 4 tb nas storage drives with the newer 6tb faster nas storage drive , as started getting data errors .

Price

Price was good and capacity was sufficient for the need.

Good price, gave me cheap upgrade to get more storage out of my nas

Maybe a bigger size if the price is good !

Shipping

Nice fast harddrive, shipped fast and works great.

Packaging/appearance

Not a wd fault, the industry should put both claimed and estimated actual storage in their packaging to avoid confusion.

Competitiveness

I bought a couple of these as part of a new synology nas purchase almost two years ago.

I've installed 4 of them in a synology ds920+ and they've been blazing fast.

The bearings were humming quite a lot more than 3x 8tb seagate drives combined together!

The 4tb wd red drives are the most reliable and have the greatest longevity of all this series.
