It gives approximately a 1 second groan when it shuts down that surprised me after the first day of operation.

Yes you can spend less money on a drive the same size, but sometimes you get what you pay for.
Accustomed to chinese prices they buy the cheap garbage drives.
Shipping
It arrived intact despite best efforts of amazon to deliver with no additional padding.
Packaging/appearance
The blank cardboard box was inside a plastic envelope with no padding of any kind.
Also, i think that some of the odd noise issues (not the 5 second click which is a known) and doas are probably due to poor packing.
Wd did a fine job packaging this drive in their own labeled "with serial# sticker on the plain box.
Competitiveness
Fast (compared to my older wd black drives).
"not true for 2 other brands i've had".
Compared to those, this drive barely makes a sound.
I swear i think some negative reviews are done by competitors.

Seems amazons automatic bag sealer it comes in will tear open very easy in shipment poor sealing needs some adjustments

This thing is very loud so if you are making a computer with silence as a priority then you should steer clear of this drive but if you dont mind a bit of noise this thing will do everything you ask of it and the noise i feel is a more than acceptable trade off for the performance and reliability you get with this hdd
