The racket pocket makes a perfect place to stow gear that wont quite fit in the pack such as my collapsible hiking staff that somehow doesnt collapse enough to fit in a standard pack

You are meant to stack your shoes in the bottom compartment but if you wear larger than a size 8 then you will probably be putting them in the main interior because the shoe area is a tight fit
