If the stand itself were more attractive unless your cake is purple and white this would definitely be an eyesore so that it could double as a cake stand i might be more willing to accept the big pricetag

The locking mechanism is a solid curved piece of plastic that you pull out with your fingers curved in order to lock the table into position
