I had a theory that modern iphones require too much charging voltage to combine carplay and charging with the mazda head unit causing the intermittent failure of carplay when connected via a wired connection

If you do it really might become a rock solid reliable carplay experience when the usb port is no longer trying to charge the phone and provide carplay connectivity at the same time
