Pros & Cons
Pros
It does a very good job at this task. Worked right out of the package. As most have this is inexpensive.
Can be used as a chisel plane by removing the top. Star rater said he chuckled at people grinding on the iron because 'it's too wide' the blade can be adjusted side to side to be flush as needed.
Check out youtube for paul sellers'video on this very plane.
Cons
Blade is wider than the body of the plane so it is impossible to get tight up against your workpiece. With no escape for the shavings, it digs into the wood and stops, due to the blade being gummed up.
Highlights
Quality
Overall, i love the sturdy build, the fact that the blade goes right to the outside edge, and the compact size.
It's well-built and solid, easy to grip, and easy to adjust.
I don't know how sharp this was out of the box because the first thing i did was to sharpen it on my harbor freight diamond block.
The outside is all smooth and well made.
Price
I would highly recommend it unless you just absolutely need to spend over $200 on a lie neilson.
Overall it's an impressive tool for the price.

Like all cutting hand tools you will need to sharpen the factory edge for best performance but it will cut softwoods right out of the box

It does have some sharp edges that i lightly sanded to make it more comfortable and to keep from scratching the surface of the work but thats a very minor thing
