If you upgrade the storage for your needs and the if the cpu will handle your applications then this is a solid pc for the money.
Packaging/appearance
Both systems offer thunderbolt 3 but the mac mini includes 2 ports vs the 1 port on the x35g.
Competitiveness
Built a ryzen itx system and it cost me a couple hundred more for similar specs a couple months ago.
The system can be opened with just a screw driver and allows you to add a second nvme ssd or standard ssd.
The device i got comes with 16gb ram and a 256gb ssd.
Gonna pick up another for the office, possibly the ryzen model from same company.

Ive done other reviews and will do more that make this clear these days a mini pc that cant handle 4k video is basically useless as an htpc

Honestly based on the components and the included windows license i dont think i could build a machine even in an atx case for cheaper

The included windows install consumes about 35gb of space so you are left with only about 200gb of usable space
