I bought a ps2 when it first came out for $500.
Now, it's at such a low price you have to get it.

The system came earlier than anticipated, which was awesome.
Fast delivery and a blast from the past really fun
Then came ghost recon,splinter cell,dead or alive,mechassualt,tony hawks pro 3&4,project gotham,metal gear solid 2,just to name a few.
Packaging/appearance
The decals on it are pretty damn cool as well.
But the x box is pretty damn close and might be ahead in the future at the rate its going!
Competitiveness
The lighting effects make a noticable difference than the competitors.
Xbox is the best system by far and shatters the competition.
Compared to the nintendo game cube (which feels like a tinker toy with the poor quality controllers) there is no comparison.
On my list gc is the worst (i own all 3 next gen systems) then xbox comes in a close second behind ps2.
