Pros & Cons
Pros
The tahiti core is no longer the fastest single-gpu around (as it was originally released as the hd7970), but it's still an extremely capable chip that can run all the latest directx and opengl apis. The card itself is amazing. This thing is beast.
It has a clean, crisp display and superfast frame rates. Runs gta v perfectly fine at 1080p, very high settings. Replayed the batman arkham series and was very impressed. But the game play shows a considerable gain in quality settings and fps.
Use the dvi-d to hdmi adapter (included in box) and run a separate audio line. Works flawlessly. Everything works great, no artifacts. Otherwise it's been flawless.
Cons
Even with the side removed from my case for good airflow, the problem persists. This leads me to believe that the vram is getting too hot and by increasing airflow or decreasing the temperature of the gpu heatsink results in slightly better vram cooli... Read More
The worst is the costumer service. Received two defective cards and spent nearly $40. There seems to be an oily substance leaking out of the card.

Highlights
Quality
I've had no issues running the card after the older firmware and am very happy with the purchase.
Beast of a video card and while i'm not as hardcore about my graphics as others, i'm very impressed by the quality given to me ... Read More
Initially after receiving the card and testing it out i was pretty disappointed.
A monster card, i usually buy from amazon, but due to $30 rebate and free games, went with the egg on this one.
Price
Still a great card for a good price.
Great card for the price, got mine for around 210$.
I will say to make sure you have plenty of room in your case, the r9 280x is 11.
Packaging/appearance
The xfx r9 280x was a deal i was waiting on.
Competitiveness
I5 4670kmsi z87-g45 gaming mobocoolmax 1000w psucrossfired with 7970 ghzi crossfired this with a gigabyte 7970 ghz.
It's not a top-shelf card, but for gaming at 1920x1080 (1080p) on a single monitor it's all i need.
I had always thought the different versions weren't compatible.
