Pros & Cons

Pros

Quality is superb! It is a bit more fiddly and counterintutive to use than expected. All works perfectly. This looks a lot more streamlined and elegant.

The front locking skewer is tougher to get the right tightness at first but after a few times doing it it's very easy. Love not having to fool with the skewer - once you get it right for your fork, it releases completely and * back down securely.

Just a minor appearance issue, but doesn't detract from the functionality of the mount. Mounts solidly and rides well. Easy to install, rugged, works with both racing and mountain bikes.

Both the front and rear crossbar holders have adjustable mounting positions to fit any size of crossbar. The yakima forklift grabs these thule square type crossbars perfectly. Perfect one for the aero-shaped factory crossbars.

Easy for a single person to mount/dismount bike on roof. Ps; when loading or unloading, put a tarp or thick towel on the roof to keep from scratching it.

Cons

The flared end on the rivet broke off, allowing the cover to fall out. The tray is too flimsy.

Forklift has no fixed position at the hinge point. It flops around and gets in the way when you lift the bike up. Configuration of the cross bars makes the forklift to protrude too much to the back.

Quality

This product works well on my car.

I own both, but have most experience with the yakima over nearly five years.

5yakima is betterthe stability of the bike on the rack is dependent on the quality of the fork clamp and rear wheel tie down.

My problem with the new design is that it's simply not as secure as the old one.

Shipping

No issues with shipping or putting it together!

Competitiveness

Fits perfect for my mountain bike, which is a 29er

Yakima is an excellent brand and i have several frontloader bike racks-the last one came with a broken skewer nut assembly.

It’s a waste of resources to ship the entire frontloader back.

For the price it should include one lock core since we don't want to spend another $25-35 for a 2-pack when we only need one.

The old skewer had a cap on one end and the lockingfolding head screws on and off

My problem with the new design is that its simply not as secure as the old one

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

With a lock core fitted and locked the old locking head simply cannot be removed when a bike is clamped in well it could be by somebody with a hacksaw or something but its at least conceptually a sound system

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Because the new skewer has a screwoff cap opposite the locking end the lock is irrelevant the screw can simply be removed and the bike is free
