Pros & Cons
Pros
The lock looks very sleek and futuristic, and as a great design elements to the overall front door lock of our home. It's beautiful and matches the other oil rubbed bronze hardware on my doors. I use this on my garage since it doesn't have a deadbolt.... Read More
It is nice to have the option to independently set multiple unlock codes. It uses a check mark symbol where the asterisk should be. A specific tone notifies you that you have successfully entered the code to unlock the door.
Touch screen is responsive and bright. Screen timeout is short, but not much of a problem once you see how it all functions. The only complaint i have is that while you can use this with an app, the app is complete and utter garbage.
Easy to install and use. Easy installation documentation is very clear and easy to understand but the execution may be a bit much for some users. Follow the instructions and was complete in about 30-45 mins. Very happy with the easy installation, and ... Read More
Yale has solid compatibility with various home automation platforms. Works flawlessly with smartthings. Paired with alexa via my smart things hub.
Cons
Handles move but latch wont retract. If it malfunctions, you have no way to retract the latch because there is no key. Seems the set screw on the inside handle, which puts tension on the retainers for the handle, worked its way loose.
Highlights
Quality
Again, the quality and feel of this product is amazing.
Right from the start i was very impressed with the quality and usability/design of the yale lever smart lock.
I appreciated the how video app that was offered with this product.
The fact that this pairs with the same technology is huge.
Price
This is a decent product and the price is pretty good.
The price is a bit high but given the quality and the technology yale has in this lock, i think it’s reasonable.
Packaging/appearance
2) the instructions on the smartthings app for z-wave/z-wave plus are wrong.
If you use the one-touch lock feature (enabled by default), then any button on the face locks the door immediately, so there’s ... Read More
1) you absolutely have to take the batteries out (or start with them out), then put the z-wave brick in, then put the batteries back in.
Competitiveness
I have used a schlage lock on my previous home and it seemed like much more of a deterrent.
I use wink and the pairing for this lock is more complicated than the other kwikset locks i have installed.
On our front door, we have a schlage encode deadbolt that is also tied into our ring alarm.
I did partially assemble the lock so i could include it next to my hubitat z-wave hub.
