Pros & Cons
Pros
Zalman fan mate 2 fan controller is a really cool thing about zalman. The base speed (normal speed/first gear) can be adjusted to a point that you have decent cooling and acceptable level of noise. Fans still spin at full bore, but won't slow unless i... Read More
Small device, easy to tuck away in case. Temperature switch is attached to cpu heat sink via a 3 mm screw. Exhaust butted against the rear of the case(s) comes with a little sticky pad to attach it to the inside of your case. Takes the place of an emp... Read More
Robert k. Ez to use. Provides excellent manual control over fan speed. This gadget lets me dial it down.
Construction is solid. Adaptable to a variety of installation scenarios. Nice project for an old retired engineer to keep busy.
Cons
Don't let anybody who works with their hands touch it as it will surely crumble if anymore than a feather touches it. Bad solder and a broken pcb. It's always disconcerting to me when the picture and actual product don't match.

Highlights
Quality
Nice and small, works really well in a thermaltake core v1 to slow down the big front fan.
The controller works great, doesn't over heat, and is just what i needed.
Because of the low power involved, the resistor doesn't heat up much.
This most recent one seems to be non-functional after only a few months.
Price
This is the best 8 bucks you can spend on a loud pc.
I do this by using a y-cable that i purchased separately for about $3.
Packaging/appearance
Comes with a little sticky pad to attach it to the inside of your case.
Competitiveness
Otherwise, i would recommend zalman's five channel controller, which i also used, and wouldn't cost too much more.
