Pros & Cons
Pros
Zojirushi coffeemaker makes wonderful tasting, strong coffee. It's important to stabilize the lid during pouring to keep it from falling. I love pour over coffee, so this is great.
If you are willing to be meticulous in dealing with it, this can be an excellent choice. It also makes 5 cups of coffee, as long as those are like 5-6 oz cups. Going from two pots of coffee a day to eight ounces a day can be difficult.
Two caveats for using this cofee maker. Since my husband passed away i no longer need the large, unwieldy 12 cup coffeemaker. Otherwise it seems the same excellent little coffee maker.
Without the filter, the hot water splashes just a little bit but coffee ground gets boiling temperature water, which is good! Remember to properly fold the filter cone. The pour-over style placement of the filter & grounds cuts down on mess when e... Read More
Cons
Water falls from the maker through holes in the carafe’s lid into the brew basket. Because of the basket-in-carafe feature, there is no “pause and pour” feature. Water temperature is a problem cause it doesn't get hot enough and it is not consistent t... Read More
The zojirushi ec-dac50 zutto 5-cup drip coffeemaker has serious design flaws that make it unsatisfactory. I feel a 20$ walmart coffee machine probably will do a better job than this one. Don't buy this overrated and overpriced coffee maker.
Highlights
Quality
I love the water filter in this design, the removable water tank to carry to the sink, and the ease of assembly and clean up.
Makes great coffee, only gave it 4 stars because its a lot of separate components, makes getting it set up and making coffee ev... Read More
Lastly, after setting the carafe down on my counter after washing it one day cracked.
It makes the water temperature lower than boiling temperature, and the coffee wasn't made right.
Price
The reviews are in, this coffee maker is worth the price.
This is a unit i paid about $65 for.
I could not bring myself to buy another carafe for more than half of what i paid for the coffeemaker.
Well, a five cup carafe runs between $40-50 depending on where you get it.
Packaging/appearance
The photo on the website looks common, but it is actually very cute.
Competitiveness
It makes about two cups, which is all i drink in the morning, the cleanup is so easy and the coffee is good - better than the ninja.
I own several other zojurushi appliances, such as their bread maker and rice cooker, and they are fabulous as well.
The spout for pouring is tiny so the rate the coffee leaves the pot is about half of what you'd get with another brand.
I could've bought other coffee makers around the same price.

I’ll probably use this coffee maker on the weekends and even though it’s not programmable i can still get it ready at night and in the morning just push the button and a few minutes later i have a pot of coffee

The one thing i need to remember is 1 cup of coffee is only about a 5 or 6 oz cup for this coffee maker so if you want an 8 oz cup you’ll need to use 2 cups of water according to the measurements on the water reservoir which means 16 oz’s of water for an 8 oz cup seems like a lot of water

If you want 2 8 oz cups of coffee you’ll need about 4 cups of water

The measurements for this coffee maker are not for larger cups of coffee and is designed for 1 person if you want a larger cup or 2 people for a smaller cup of coffee
