It takes a little longer than the stovetop method, but i can walk away from it while it's cooking. The timer and porridge mode would work great as well. Use the porridge for rice pudding.

Yes it is pricey.
The bowl's inner lining easily gets scratched with the plastic spatula.

A little over priced - yes, but my mom loves cooking and this rice cooker is really good.
As the heading said i bought it in 2012, and the price has more than doubled, but it totally worth it.
I used to use the $30 panasonic rice cooker.

Of considerably more concern is that the pot is coated with teflon

Whats worse is the company does not sell replacement parts for any of their rice cookers
