By tightening the bottom cap the cap effectively push the glass flask against the inner oringgasket

This will ensure that the inner glass flask is snugly pressed against the inner oring seal this is not the oring on the stopper but on the interior around the inside of the opening into the charafe when the stopper is off

Yes i did unscrewed the bottom cap of one of my units for me to find out about the inner oring but be warned while it wasnt rocket science it was not that easy to properly reseat the mouth of the glass flask back onto the oring
