Same thing happens every time you pour something in it and close the lid the red light turns on and you have to wait a couple of minutes until it turns green again to open it back and take your waffle out

Important be sure to look on the package for their mixing instructions for waffles instead of pancakes

Dont put too much because it will expand and ooze out the sides

This waffle maker was to replace a doubleheart waffle maker that had served us well

Its a bit cheaply made the knob to adjust temp fell out when i turned the unit on its side for storage as its meant to be kept
